For all the lousy press Israel gets it's nice to see something like this. What really would have been nice if the the various industries pictured would have given Israel credit.

My Great Great Grandfather Karl Leveke was a bricklayer and leader of the German Jewish community in Des Moines before WW1. Do you have any temple records of him? I currently live in KC and would love to come up and research any records you have and even help in archival work.

Kirk: Thanks for writing. Many of the German Jews settled on the west side of the Des Moines River and were members of the Reform Congregation. The Orthodox Community came mostly from the east side of the river. I'll follow up with you directly and see what we can come up with. Thanks for reading and for the comment. M
